Movember

Movember 2020

November is here! And it’s going to get hairy.

Movember, or November, is a month and non-profit charity that asks men across the world to take part and raise awareness for men’s health, supporting prostate and testicular cancer research, alongside mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Before we go ahead and tell you to take part, how about we tell you why it’s a good cause? Movember was established in 2003 by Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, and has created a substantial movement, raising over £600 million for men’s health issues, which funds over 1250 men’s health projects in over 20 countries in the world. With a massive 5 million supporters across the world, we think there are more men out there that could take part.

So this one goes out to you at home, put down the shaving razors and take part! With Gillette being a direct supporter of Movember, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if you put the razor down for a month and support the movement to help these foundations out.

Movember aims to reduce premature deaths in males by 25% by 2030, and for such a good cause, not shaving for a month seems minimal. By taking part, as a society, we can help these health foundations improve their research and increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and the treatments that follow afterwards. Movember is attempting to “change the face of men’s health”, and with reducing the number of deaths by men’s health issues, by changing our face for a month, we can all help save some lives.

Similarly, No-Shave November asks the men of the world to put down their razors and embrace their natural hair, supporting cancer research all the same. These non-profit charities do their best to raise money through this, and as most chemotherapy patients lose their hair through their treatment, it’s important to embrace your natural hair and not take it for granted.

In the United Kingdom, with the COVID-19 Lockdown back underway until December, there’s no better time to take part than now, we aren’t going to be going on our usual nights out and about. So sit back, enjoy your Lockdown with your social support bubble, and let that beard grow! Movember is a supporter of Men’s Mental Health Awareness, and with Lockdown affecting the mental health of us all, it’s important to remember that there are charities and foundations out there that are looking out for each and every one of us, and you can take part just as easily.
