Every year, the prevention and support charity Mental Health Foundation hosts an important week of awareness, we take this time to focus on our mental health and the mental health of others.
This week of support and understanding falls right at the centre of our lockdown due to the lasting impact of the Coronavirus.
With many people staying at home and experiencing fear and loneliness, lockdown is having a detrimental effect on all of our lives – but it is hitting some harder than others.

With such uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus outbreak, managing our mental health has become a lot more difficult.
Now that we are all socially distancing and staying at home, we find ourselves being kept apart from friends and family.
Mental health problems can affect anyone at any time. Individuals are likely to experience long-lasting issues, including depression and anxiety that will go on to take control of their lives, day in, day out.
We must take this opportunity to discuss mental health openly and focus on helping those who are most vulnerable.
Each year, Mental Health Awareness Week focuses on a certain theme – this year, the chosen theme is ‘kindness’.
In these uncertain times, we all need a bit of kindness, and support and care need to be felt across the world.
Kindness is at the heart of our local communities, and we need to use this community spirit to provide us all with support in this hectic time.
How can I get involved?
Now more than ever, we all need to get involved this Mental Health Awareness Week to help provide those that need our support with conversations, advice and kindness.
A simple conversation, videocall or social media direct message is the best way to get in touch with friends, family and co-workers who may need just a little bit of support and encouragement.
The Mental Health Foundation is looking for people to reflect on their own mental health and providing others with acts of kindness; if you are looking to get involved on social media, you can use the hashtags #KindessMatters and #MentalHealthFoundationWeek.
Not matter what you decide to post, you can join in with the rest of the nation and help to support millions of vulnerable people.
This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week starts from today (18th) and runs until the 25th of May.
